South Beach Diet – The South Beach Diet is the name given to a popular low-carb diet. It was created by Dr. Arthur Agatston, who used it to help people follow a diet that lowers cholesterol without starving themselves.
The South Beach Diet can be described as a modified low-fat diet, designed to get rid of fat from the main areas of the body while increasing the amount of carbs intake. The South Beach Diet has been adopted by thousands of people, who have lost weight and increased their muscle mass in a short period of time.
How Does The South Beach Diet Work?
The South Beach Diet can be divided into three phases. The first phase or the beginning, is commonly known as the “blacklist”. During this phase you won’t be allowed to eat any carb-based foods, such as pasta, rice, bread and potatoes. This will prevent you from gaining weight in this stage. You will also be prohibited from eating any fats, oils or processed foods.
After this period of fasting and weight loss, you will enter the second phase or the medium-term eating plan. During this stage, you are allowed to consume some carbohydrates, but not all carbohydrates. In this phase, you are allowed to increase the amount of fats, proteins and unsaturated fats, but not all fats, carbohydrates or processed foods.
The third phase of the south beach diet is known as the long-term eating plan. During this phase, you are allowed to consume all the allowed food groups, but of course, not all the carbohydrates. What makes the South Beach Diet different from other weight-loss diets is that during this phase, you are encouraged to make long-term changes in your eating habits. This means that if you stick with your weight-loss plan, you will be able to experience long-term weight-loss.
During the intermediate phase, you are allowed some carbohydrates. Also, you will no longer consume all the carbohydrates you were previously consuming. In this phase, you are encouraged to increase the amount of proteins and unsaturated fats that you are currently consuming.
Most weight-loss plans allow you to replace those high-calorie foods with vegetables, fruits and whole grain foods. The low-carbohydrate or strict low-carbs phase is considered as the most difficult, but with the right attitude, you can succeed in reaching your goal of weight-loss.
The last phase of the South Beach Diet is known as maintenance phase. At this point, you are allowed to consume some carbohydrates again. The important thing is that at this phase, you are allowed to slowly incorporate the intake of more carbohydrates.
You should also start to see positive results in your weight loss because this phase is considered as one of the most physically demanding phases of the South Beach Diet.
